Coached by her father Imran Mirza, Sania, a
Muslim, began playing tennis at the age of six,
turning professional in 2003. "My mother took me
to a coach, who initially refused to coach me
because I was too small," said Mirza, who is 5
ft. 7 in. tall. "After a month, he called my
parents to say he'd never seen a player that

is the highest ranked female tennis
player ever from India - ranked 31 in
singles and 109 in doubles by
mid-October 2005. Her original goal had
been to enter the top 100 by the end of
2005, but she revised this to entering
the top 50 after good performances at

Malleswari
Karam Malleswari (born June 1, 1975) is an
Indian Weightlifter. She won a bronze medal in
the 2000 Summer Olympics at Sydney, which made
her the first Indian woman to win an Olympic
medal. She is a recipient of the Rajiv Gandhi
Khel Ratna award, India's highest sporting
honour for the year 1995-1996. She is also a
recipient of the civilian honour Padma Shri in
1999.

Gopichand
Pullela Gopichand was born on November 16, 1973
in Nagandla. He is an Indian Badminton player.
He won the All-England Open Badminton
Championship in 2001 defeating Chen Hong of
China in the finals. He became the second Indian
to achieve this feat after Prakash Padukone, who
won it in 1980. He was awarded the Rajiv Gandhi
Khel Ratna Award for the year 2000-2001. But
later on, his game was affected due to injuries
and his ranking dropped to 126 in the year 2003.
In 2005, he was awarded the Padma Shri.

March 1987. She is a chess grandmaster

India. Her April 2005 FIDE Elo rating is
2508, placing her at number five in the
world for women.Humpy was originally
named Hampi by her parents but her
father later changed it to Humpy, a more
Russian-sounding name. She writes
her family name (Koneru) before her
given name.In 2001 she won the World
Junior Girls Chess Championship.
